Illegal dumping is a serious issue. It not only pollutes our environment but also diminishes the value of our public places and our community has a whole. We can no long take rural drives to simply enjoy the scenery. Instead, all of our open spaces and grasslands are being filled with rubbish dumped by us, the residents of this community. Littering and illegal dumping costs the Corporation hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to clean up. Your illegal dumping makes our communities and natural areas look dirty and uncared for, unpleasant to be in, and less likely to be used by the public. A poor and uncared for environment leads to more dumping, other illegal activities and inconsiderate behaviour. This, in turn, can lead to reduced community pride and reduced property values. The accumulation of rotten, decaying garbage attracts rats and other disease-carrying creatures. Dumping hazardous waste puts people's health at risk and can harm the environment.. If we continue to tolerate it, we send a message to violators that it is allowable to dump garbage in our community.
